We do not use PayPal, even for Ebay auctions. About 5 years ago, PayPal tried to steal over $600 from us and would not release the funds. Answers to questions submitted by email were through "canned" email responses, all negative and not problem solving at all. PayPal did not answer the telephone so it was impossible to talk to a person that could solve the problem. This type of activity took 6-8 weeks of time - frustrating and pointless activities on our part. An attorney friend advised me to threaten Small Claims Court action (I was then in San Diego and PayPal was in the San Francisco area). We sent three messages in three days threatening Small Claims Court action in the San Diego area and the funds were quickly released to me. Apparently the use of the words Small Claims Court action caused management to take the correct approach - finally. It's unfortunate that management was not responsive prior to that threat - but that's PayPal. Immediately after receiving our funds, we quit using PayPal - we want to work with friends who make for a rewarding experience, not with enemies who make easy things hard, next to impossible. In my opinion, PayPal does not care about their customers, and since we do care about our customers, they provide a direct opposite to what we want to experience. To assure myself that PayPal still does not do a good job of protecting the seller, every quarter or so, I review the comments on www.paypalsucks.com. There are still many problems with PayPal. I am pleased that we are not dependent on PayPal and we do not use them for either sales or buys. In fact if a seller of a product that I want sells only by PayPal, I refuse to bid or buy. Your experience may be very different than mine, so my recommendation is to use PayPal if you want, if you have not had negative exoperiences, and if they serve your needs. If they do not serve your payment processing needs, find another service. ___________________________ We are presently evaluating Google Checkout - a service that I have used for several buy transactions and am initially impressed with. You will probably see Google Checkout services on this website soon since they seem to be honest, responsive, and competent. |
